• David Cébron has been contributing to two popular science publications (in French): "Un pendule de Foucault Fluide", published in 'Reflets de la physique', and "Le magnétisme de la Lune", published in Pour la science.

• The recent work of Jose Abreu and colleagues on the possible planetary influence on solar activity received extensive media coverage, among others in ETH Life, Neue Zürcher Zeitung and on Deutschlandfunk. It was also discussed in a recent issue of Nature.

• Jerome Noir is an invited speaker at the symposium to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the death of Henri Poincaré. This takes place at the famous Institut Henri Poincaré in Paris. The title of his talk is "On the contributions of H. Poincaré to modern geophysics, from the internal structure of the Earth to the geodynamo."

• In its recent issue on 'Swiss Pioneers' (October 2012), International Innovation, a magazine dedicated to the dissemination of science, research and technology, features an article on the work of senior scientist Andreas Gehring and former PhD student Michalis Charilaou.

• From 1st June to 6th November 2011 there will be a public exhibition at the focusTerra museum at ETH Zurich, based on the upcoming ESA SWARM mission that will observe Earth's magnetic field from space. Workers in the EPM group (especially Dr. A. Kuvshinov and Prof A. Jackson) are heavily involved in the SWARM mission preparations.

• Elisabeth Canet has been awarded Le Prix de Thèse du Comité National Francais de Géodésie et de Géophysique for 2011 for her PhD Thesis "Modèle dynamique et assimilation de données de la variation séculaire du champ magnétique terrestre."

• Erik Spence  has won the Marshall N. Rosenbluth Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award for 2007.  This recognisies his PhD work on the Madison liquid sodium experiment. He'll pick up the award at the November meeting of the Division of Plasma Physics.
